In KS1 & 2 our School’s curriculum is based on the programmes of study of the subjects of the English national curriculum, plus Greek.

At times subjects are taught in separate, or discrete, lessons; a Maths (Numeracy) lesson or a lesson focused on writing skills or spelling. At other times subjects are taught using a topic approach, so a theme such as ‘My Place in Space’, or ‘Journeys’ might be used as the context for learning within several subject areas; English, Science, Art and ICT for example.

Greek, Music and PE are taught by specialist teachers and are timetabled.

Within the English National Curriculum at KS1 & 2, a strong emphasis is given to Literacy (English) and Numeracy (Maths); they are recognised as ‘core’ subjects. Science and ICT are also recognised as high priority subjects; as is Greek in our School. The other subjects are termed ‘foundation’ subjects.

Each subject has a subject leader who ensures that the subject is being effectively taught and that new methods or developments are being incorporated into the lessons taught in our School.
