Year 6 Assessment & Reporting

Teachers utilise a range of ways to continually assess pupils’ learning and check their understanding eg through marking, questioning, presentations, quizzes.

In addition, a number of formal assessments are undertaken during the year to judge progress. Advance warning of these assessments will be given as deemed necessary by the class teacher.

During the course of the year the children’s reading and writing skills will be assessed.
Spelling tests take place weekly.

The children are formally assessed in Numeracy at the end of Term 1 and 3. In addition to this, teacher assessment is daily and ongoing. Formal assessments follow the format of the National Curriculum Tests (SATs). Such assessments include a timed mental arithmetic paper, and two reasoning papers without the use of a calculator.

Science is teacher assessed and formative throughout each topic and across the year.
